The police said robbers stole N$300 000 meant for pensioners from the NamPost Fransfontein branch in Kunene on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 00:00.

In a statement, deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said the men badly assaulted the postmaster and tied his hands with electric cables to force him to hand over the keys to the post office.

The money stolen was delivered at the post office on Monday.

Deputy commissioner Shikwambi said a security guard saw two people running away from the post office and he called in the police.

When the police arrived, she said, they found the doors to the post office wide open and they went to the post master’s house where they found him beaten and tied up.

According to Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi, the postmaster told them that three men had beaten him and demanded the keys to the post office.

The postmaster was rushed to the clinic and is currently admitted at Khorixas State Hospital.

“The tracks were followed for about 5km on the gravel road up to the area where the tracks stopped, probably boarded a vehicle. Thus far, the police are in pursuit of the suspects as none has been arrested yet,” Shikwambi said.
