Update on Genocide Talks with Germany by Vice President H.E. Nangolo Mbumba.
The Namibian Government has interpreted the financial commitment made by Germany as reparations, despite the joint declaration between the two parties not mentioning the term reparations.
In a statement to this effects, Vice President Nangolo Mbumba said, “As a consequence of the genocide committed between 1904 and 1908, Germany has accepted a moral, historical and political obligation to pay monetary compensation (reparations) for reconciliation and reconstruction programmes for the affected communities to improve their livelihoods.”
