I bet you 1000% that President Hage Geingob has said those things about activist journalists and opinionists. That cannot be President Hage Geingob.

I doubt it is him because he is too educated and politically wise to say those things. He understands what participatory democracy is. It is why the other day I said he has been very open about himself, his policies and the way forward.

Namibia scores highest in media freedom because of activist journalists and opinionists. In short, anyone with an opinion is pushing for debate. For those who understand democracy better, a debate is what builds nations. What can a country be if the people are browbeaten to keep quiet?

Namibia’s media sphere is known for its vibrancy and what brings in vibrancy is debate, and debate is made up of opinions. So who in their rightful senses can try to shut up people’s opinions?

Journalism is, by nature, activism. This is because the journalists, as the fourth estate, act on behalf of the generality of the people. One would have thought anyone who claims to be highly educated should understand this simple fact – journalists are activists!
