The Central Bank’s Senior Information Officer Frans Amakali has participated in the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon, the 89km Comrades Marathon, for the second time.

Frans outperformed himself in the second installment, finishing in 08 hours 49 minutes. Frans and 37 other Namibian runners finished the grueling race in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, with 15 000 other runners from around the world last Sunday.

Frans, who has run the marathon twice, was named the Namibian Comrades Marathon Brand Ambassador earlier this year.

“In preparation for this marathon, I ran 2 000km in the last month. This experience has taught me that nothing is impossible and that you can achieve anything you set your mind to”. For the 12-hour race, Frans received the Bill Rowan medal.

“The endurance shown by Frans should serve as an inspiration to us at the Bank and indeed the entire Namibian nation that we have what it takes to achieve our individual goals and persevere to attain national goals as a collective,” said Deputy Governor Ebson Uanguta, who also serves as the Patron for Athletics Namibia.

“We are very proud that Frans flies the BoN flag high and has helped to put Namibia on the map along with his teammates. Their accomplishments continue to inspire our people.”, he said.
