The Namibian Agronomic Board has joined forces with AvaGro, a local agricultural company, to further the development of Namibia’s banana industry through research and development.
NAB confirmed its partnership with AvaGro, a company specialising in climate-related agricultural solutions.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations focuses on the production of banana seedlings within a tissue culture laboratory.
This collaboration comes at a time Namibia is spending million on banana imports.
For example, Namibia spent about N$57 million on banana imports last year.
NAB and AvaGro now want to produce banana seedlings in a tissue culture laboratory.
The primary objective of their agreement is to ensure that local producers have access to high-quality, disease-free banana seedlings.
