The two leading uranium producers in the country have extracted and processed 13,402 tonnes of uranium oxide over the past two years, with the majority of these exports directed to China and other uranium-enriched nations.
Chinese owned, Swakop Uranium’s Husab Mine, extracted 7,861 tonnes of uranium oxide (U3O8), while Rossing Uranium extracted 5,541 tonnes of uranium oxide (U3O8) from 2021 to 2022.
These figures were obtained from the Sustainability reports published last month, which covers their operations from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022.
Remarkably, Namibia has no intention to use or retain the uranium, leading to 100% of the country’s yellowcake/uranium oxide being exported to countries with nuclear reactors for energy production and various other purposes, including military applications.
In 2021, the Husab Mine/Swakop Uranium reached an unprecedented milestone by producing 102.9 million tonnes from its operations in Namibia, located within the Namib Naukluft National Park.
