President Hage Geingob’s recent comments attributing Namibia’s high unemployment rate to the successes of the government’s education efforts has sparked criticism from analysts who argue that it oversimplifies the complex issue.
During the commemoration of the World Children’s Day at Walvis Bay on Sunday, Geingob said the government’s “successful” education approach has created problems as Namibia sits with thousands of unemployed educated youth.
“We have now put many (children) through school but they could not get jobs. Now we have a crisis of unemployment, so success has become a problem,” Geingob stressed.
These comments did not sit well with many Namibians especially education stakeholders who believe the President is oblivious to the real factors contributing to unemployment.
