Namibia has been ranked in the ninth spot as the most innovative economy in Africa.
This is according to the latest World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Global Innovation Index (GII) report.
Mauritius clinched the top position, followed by South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Botswana, Egypt, Cape Verde, Senegal, and then Namibia.
WIPO, a specialised agency of the United Nations, focuses on promoting and protecting intellectual property (IP) worldwide.
Lisho Mundia, Acting Executive Director of the Ministry of Higher, Technology, and Innovation, emphasised the country’s commitment to enhancing the National System of Innovation in alignment with development plans.
“We continue our efforts to ensure the National System of Innovation of Namibia is impeccable to reach the target set in the fifth National Development Plan (NDP5), to be aligned with the upcoming NDP 6,” Mundia stated.
