The Kavango East region witnessed the unveiling of Namibia’s first-ever structure built entirely with bricks made from plastic, igniting optimism for employment and entrepreneurship in the area.
Wapa-nawa, a recycling centre, designed and constructed the building, providing jobs for over 50 plastic packers who collect plastic and four permanent brickmakers on-site.
The inauguration took place in Rundu, marking a significant milestone for the region.
The building will be used as a centre for Wapa-nawa, and a lighthouse for those looking to sell their disposable plastic in the region, representing a promising initiative for sustainable construction.
Wapa-nawa project founder, Ladislaus Shikerete (32) spoke to The Villager during the launch.
