Health Minister KalumbiShangula says his ministry in collaboration with other stakeholders is implementing a National Action Plan on Health Security.

This will ensure the country’s preparedness to respond to health emergencies including the recent respiratory infection among children reported in China.

Shangula said this plan launched in 2020 provides a comprehensive framework driving multi-sectoral activities for public health emergency prevention, readiness, and response.

The minister made these remarks in the wake of reports indicating a surge in respiratory infections, particularly among children, overwhelming paediatric departments in metropolitan hospitals in China.
