The Namibia Integrated Employment Information System (NIEIS) has been offline for a month, causing distress for approximately 5,000 job seekers that flock to the site quarterly.
The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creations (MLIREC) acknowledged the issue last week, revealing that disruptions began in the second week of December 2023.
Martha Shapopi, senior employment officer at the Ministry, explained that efforts are underway to clear unnecessary and expired data, enhancing system capacity.
As Namibia’s sole national online job portal, the NIEIS, records potential job seekers, vacancies, and employment quarterly.
It was created with the aim of matching job seekers with employers.
Employers with job vacancies are required to report them to the ministry, either through an online submission or prescribed manual forms.
Subsequently, these vacancies are posted on the system, eliminating the need for jobseekers to check multiple websites.
