Mining Commissioner Isabella Chirchir has reiterated that developing countries should be allowed the autonomy to utilise fossil fuels for their developmental needs, without interference from developed nations.
Chirchir delivered these statements at the Africa Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of a panel discussion focused on critical raw material development and local value addition within the Namibian context this week.
“The developed countries have used oil to develop their nations, and now it’s our turn to develop ours,” said Chirchir.
The 30th Investing in African Mining Indaba, centred around the theme “Embracing the power of positive disruption: a bold new future for African mining,” drew in 10,000 delegates, featuring numerous industry leaders.
