Producers situated north of the red line have demonstrated a keen interest in commercially marketing their cattle through auctions and direct sales at newly established abattoirs.

This interest is reflected in the increase in cattle auctions and the volume of cattle provided by producers from 2019 to 2023 in the Northern Communal Areas (NCA).

Notably, this coincides with the operation of two new exporting abattoirs in the NCA from 2019, located in Katima Mulilo and Rundu.

According to the Livestock and Livestock Products Board NCA, the rising number of auctions indicates the willingness of NCA producers to market their livestock through this channel, which remains popular across most parts of the NCA.
