While thousands braved the scorching summer heat to bid farewell to President Hage Geingob at his final resting place, farmers in the two Kavango regions took proactive measures to mitigate crop and livestock losses as extreme temperatures persist across northern Namibia.

The relentless heat has taken a heavy toll on crops such as maize, millet, beans, and sorghum, exacerbating existing challenges in food-insecure regions, particularly in the Kavango regions.

Farmers, initially optimistic about a promising harvest this year, now face the grim reality of severe drought conditions.

The heat wave, which intensified towards the end of January, has ravaged half of their crops, leaving devastation in its wake.
