The Kavango West Regional Council and the region’s Directorate of Education have distanced themselves from the procurement process regarding alleged overpriced furniture for Himarwa Iithete Secondary School.

The Ministry faced criticism for purportedly spending N$1.5 million on school furniture tender which was awarded to a company specialising in printing and advertising.

The company allegedly charged the Ministry as high as N$1200 per learner chair, N$1500 per learner table, N$2,700 per teacher desk, N$2,500 per teacher chair, N$4000 for each laboratory tool, and N$5,500 for each of the 120 bunk beds.

In a recent development, Acting Chief of the Regional Council, Gedion Nambara, clarified that while the ministry had previously delegated such functions to the regional council, the entire procurement process for Himarwa Iithete Secondary School furniture was managed by the Ministry of Education at the head office through its procurement structure.
