Over 10,000 residents of Epupa Constituency in the Kunene region are experiencing severe food scarcity, potentially leading to starvation, as they are unable to afford daily sustenance. This crisis, revealed by the constituency’s councillor Daniel Kuuoko, has been exacerbated by recurring droughts and high poverty levels.
Kuuoko explained that the prolonged dry spell has severely affected the livelihoods of the residents, who now rely heavily on the government’s drought relief feeding program.
Historically, drought has been a natural occurrence in Kunene.
However, the past five years have seen the region lose 90% of its livestock and suffer a significant decline in crop yields due to relentless drought conditions.
