“Count yourselves as equals in your motherland,” remarked Otjozondjupa Governor James Unomasa Uerikua as 98 Batswana of Namibian descent were formally handed over by the Botswana government to Namibia.

The group was received at the Gam reception area on Friday.

It was revealed that these descendants had requested relocation to Namibia as early as 1956, decades before Namibia’s independence.

The process began in 1993, with around 1,000 individuals relocated to Namibia at Gam. Discussions regarding this latest wave of repatriation started in 2013.
