In a recent presidential debate, housing, land allocation, and economic reform took centre stage as candidates shared their visions for Namibia’s future.

McHenry Venaani, leader of the official opposition, stressed the urgent need for affordable housing for young professionals, proposing the construction of new homes to ease the current housing crisis.

“Instead of renting a garage in Katutura for N$3000 a month, we need to create viable housing options,” Venaani said.

He also called for reforms to the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF), advocating for loans that do not require repayment.

Venaani suggested that a portion of fishing quotas be allocated to NSFAF to better support students, and he criticised job market demands requiring young applicants to have ten or more years of experience.
