Health Minister Kalumbi Shangula has highlighted a significant lack of monitoring and evaluation of critical data related to road crashes, which is essential for assessing their economic, social, and health impacts on Namibia.
He noted that data on seatbelt and helmet use, as well as instances of driving under the influence, are crucial for evaluating contributing factors to road traffic incidents.
Speaking on Shangula’s behalf at a three-day workshop in Windhoek, Deputy Minister of Health Esther Muinjangue stressed the importance of capturing all relevant information from the moment a road crash occurs.
Hosted by the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the workshop seeks to improve Namibia’s road safety data management practices.
