The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has inaugurated a nursery in Eenhana, as part of its Green Cities Initiative (GCI) aimed at enhancing food security and sustainable urban development.
Launched in 2020, the GCI aims to improve the well-being of urban and peri-urban populations by creating greener, healthier, and more resilient urban spaces.
Qingyun Diao, FAO’s representative in Namibia, emphasised that the nursery project is a significant step in addressing food insecurity in Eenhana, promoting nutrition, and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
The handover included a variety of resources: greenhouse materials, gardening tools, horticultural seeds, 900 fruit tree seedlings, 490 forestry seedlings, and a solar-powered pump valued at N$633,134.84.
