Southern farmers can now draw water for irrigation from the Hardap Dam following a government decision last week, enabled by an improvement in the dam’s water levels.
The resumption comes after nearly three months (two months and 19 days) of no irrigation activities, which had put significant pressure on the agricultural sector.
NamWater, the country’s water utility, announced that system loading began on January 15, 2025, to remove air from the irrigation system in preparation for water distribution.
