A ban imposed on the importation of maize seeds intended for planting by the government will remain in place until further notice.
This was announced by the the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform after it reversed a decision to restrict the imports of maize, maize products, palm, and palm products from South Africa.
The ministry’s Executive Director Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata confirmed the development, stating that the decision was made after extensive research and ongoing monitoring of Bud Rot of Palms (Phytophthora palmivora) and Goss’s Wilt on Maize (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. nebraskensis) in South Africa.
