The Ministry of Mines and Energy has allocated N$12 million for rural electrification projects in the Kharas and Hardap Regions for the 2025/26 financial year.

The funding aims to expand electricity access to more rural communities, improving education, economic development, and quality of life.

Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, Kornelia Shilunga, announced the allocation during the official inauguration of the electrification project in Itsawisis, a village in the Kharas Region.

The initiative, co-funded by NamPower and the Ministry, has connected 25 households in Itsawisis to the national grid. Other villages, including Jakkalsvlei, Jakkalsdraai, and Nuwe Kalk, have also been electrified.

The total investment for the project in Itsawisis amounted to N$7.43 million, awarded through a competitive tender process.
