Namibia has confirmed the 7th case of coronavirus.

The health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced the confirmed case during a press briefing at State House where President Hage Geingob revealed that Cabinet had decided to lockdown Khomas and Erongo regions.

The lockdown that takes effect from Friday this week is meant to curb the spread of coronavirus.

On Monday this week, Dr Shangula announced Namibia’s fourth and first coronavirus case involving a Namibian. The other three were foreigners who had travelled to the country.

The first announcement of two more cases was made by Geingob before he briefed the media on the extra measures taken to ensure that Namibians are protected.

Dr Shangula said the 5th case is a 44-year-old Namibian pilot who went to Johannesburg on 7 February 2020 and returned on 13 February 2020.

“He had a visitor who is a fellow pilot from South Africa before he got sick.  Samples were taken and result came out positive.  Arrangements have been made to put him in isolation,” Dr Shangula said.

According to Dr Shangula, the 6th case is that of a 21-year-old Namibian student studying at WITS University in South Africa.

“He was tested in South Africa but travelled back before results came out. The results came out today as positive.  He is admitted in isolation,” Dr Shangula added.
