Horticulture production in the Kavango West region has seen significant growth, with the number of gardens increasing to 50 as of 2023.
This is according to Governor Sirkka Ausiku who announced that horticulture producers have formed an association to better coordinate their activities and emphasised the need for a market for their produce.
In October, the region plans to host a conference to bring stakeholders together to develop workable strategies for the horticulture sector.
Ausiku highlighted that despite the sector’s identification and introduction, local farmers and aspiring entrepreneurs face challenges such as a lack of technical and financial support from ministries, agencies, offices (O/M/As), and financial institutions like the Development Bank of Namibia and Agribank.
