As the rainy season unfolds, communal farmers in both Kavango regions are actively ploughing their fields in anticipation for the millet and maize season.
However, some farmers are still finding it difficult due to limited access to oxens, seeds, and the high cost of tractor services..
The Villager visited various areas in Kavango East and West and observed the diligent efforts of communal farmers, utilising hoes and oxen to prepare their fields.
Many had already completed ploughing or were in the process of doing so, emphasising the significance of this traditional practice for soil preparation.
Foibe Kangumbe, a 56-year-old communal farmer in Kavango West with five hectares of land, shared her experience.
She initiated field preparation in November with the onset of the rainy season, employing seasonal workers to assist due to the labour-intensive nature of the task.
