Theresia Ihemba, a poultry farmer, is determined to demonstrate that the mission to tackle poverty and food security issues does not only unfold on a national scale but commences with the resources one already possesses.
Hailing from Bunya, a small village on the outskirts of the Kavango West region, she initiated her modest yet impactful poultry venture, named the “Karangana Poultry Project,” in 2021 as an alternative sustainable source of income.
Ihemba embarked on her farming journey, acknowledging the challenges of agriculture and expressing a steadfast commitment to finding sustainable solutions.
“I started the farm with 60 chicken layers because I was driven by the worrisome situation at the time of the locust outbreaks. Our crop fields were severely affected by the pests, which drastically reduced our harvest and spelled hunger for us,” she explained.
