A company called Namibia Berries which is farming with blueberries in the Kavango East region has refuted claims that it has been paying its labourers a rate of N$5 per hour, well below the national minimum wage.
According to Michael James, a director at the company, the actual hourly rate paid to Namibia Berries workers is N$12, which is double the current minimum wage of N$6 for agricultural employees.
He made these remarks in response to an article published by The Villager last week, which quoted some workers claiming their hourly wage was N$5.
James clarified that these claims are entirely false.
