Namibia’s recent decision to close its borders to the importation of certain horticultural products from South Africa has posed significant challenges for South Africa’s agriculture sector.

This has been particularly for citrus farmers who have been barred from accessing the Namibian market.

This issue was brought to the fore by South African Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen during a congress in Modimolle, Limpopo, where he addressed commercial farmers and other industry stakeholders earlier this week.

Steenhuisen revealed that discussions are currently underway to resolve the situation.
