The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform’s allocation for water and sanitation represents just 1% of the national budget.

This revelation came from Carl Schlettwein, the country’s water and sanitation policymaker, during the African Union’s AIP International High-Level Panel on Water Investment for Africa.

For the current financial year, vote 38, which covers water and sanitation, received N$1.04 billion out of the N$100 billion budget for the year.

This marks a 38.9% increase from the N$634.8 million allocated during the 2023/2024 financial year.

Out of this budget, N$32.8 million has been designated for sanitation infrastructure development. Schlettwein acknowledged that these efforts are insufficient to meet Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which aims for universal access to water and sanitation.
