The Namibia Competition Commission (NaCC) has stated that the government’s plan to introduce free tertiary education at public institutions by 2026 will not immediately disrupt competition between public and private institutions.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah announced last week that university fees will be scrapped by 2026. Starting next year, students will not pay registration or tuition fees at public universities and technical centres. Namibia has two public tertiary institutions: the University of Namibia (UNAM) and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). The country also has several private institutions.
