Many parents are struggling with the affordability of stationeries and other school supplies for their children despite having been given ample time to purchase them.

Although schools handed out lists of required stationeries and other supplies to pupils in December last year, some still turned up with nothing when school resumed on Monday.

In interviews with various parents, The Villager has learned that those with more than one child are struggling to meet the stationary demands by various schools.

Many parents see this as putting the concept of free education to the test, with the government’s decision seemingly shifting most of the financial burden to parents.

Angula* (pseudonym), a father of two pupils who chose to remain anonymous, outlined the challenges faced by parents with multiple children, expressing that using N$1,000 to N$2,000 or more on school stationery for each child is a significant financial strain.
