Around 20 street vendors, predominantly women, who rely on selling their goods near the University of Namibia (UNAM) to make a living, are expressing frustration over what they perceive as unfair treatment by the City of Windhoek’s (CoW) police.
According to the vendors, City Police officers have been driving them away from their usual selling spots near UNAM’s premises, threatening fines or confiscation of their goods if they refuse to comply.
Some vendors claim to have been subjected to fines, confiscation of goods, and even physical assault by the police.
