Namibia has reported 15 malaria-related deaths between January and March, with a total of 6,147 confirmed cases recorded so far this year.
Addressing World Health Day commemorations in Rundu, Kavango East region, on Tuesday, Minister of Health and Social Services, Kalumbu Shangula, expressed concern over the doubling of malaria cases compared to the same period last year.
In 2023, Namibia recorded 287 hospital admissions and 6 deaths, while this year, there have been 630 admissions and 15 deaths.
Shangula highlighted that malaria remains endemic in 10 regions, including Kavango East/West, Ohangwena, Zambezi, Omusati, Oshana, Kunene, Oshikoto, Omaheke, and Otjozondjupa regions.
