The executive director in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombesays health insurance is not a priority in Namibia.

His comments follow a recent Afrobarometer survey revealing that a significant majority of Namibians lack health insurance coverage.

The survey found that more than 85% of Namibians do not have any form of medical aid.

Nangombe downplayed the importance of health insurance, explaining that over 85% of Namibians rely on public health services, which are provided free of charge.

“In Namibia, one does not necessarily need health insurance to access healthcare services,” Nangombe emphasised.
