The Ministry of Health and Social Services has raised alarms over the rising number of cervical cancer cases in the country with over 130 women reportedly dying from the disease annually.
According to the Ministry, about 236 Namibia women are diagnosed with cervical cancer annually
Health’s Deputy Minister Esther Muinjangue emphasised the preventable nature of cervical cancer through accessible screening and treatment services.
According to her, nearly all cervical cancer cases are casued by the human papillomavirus (HPV), often transmitted during sexual activity.
Most of these infections are usually without symptoms.
