The two Kavango regions in Namibia recorded the highest number of pangolin poaching cases last year, underscoring the persistent threat facing these endangered creatures.
In 2023, Kavango West recorded six cases of pangolin poaching, while Kavango East reported three cases, bringing the total to nine registered incidents of illegal pangolin poaching across the two regions.
Namibia joined the global community in commemorating World Pangolin Day on 17 February, drawing attention to the urgent need for pangolin conservation efforts.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Tourism, pangolins remain among the most trafficked mammals worldwide, with illegal captures continuing unabated since 2014.
