Mines and Energy Minister, Tom Alweendo, has refuted claims suggesting that the mining sector is predominantly controlled by Chinese investors.
Addressing the issue in a recent interview with Eagle FM, Alweendo dismissed the perception of Chinese dominance in the industry, asserting that such beliefs lack merit.
Alweendo emphasised that Namibia’s investment environment is open to all investors, and no particular preference is given when it comes to investing in the country.
“The ones with the capital are the ones who are able to invest. There is no one being given preference when it comes to investing in Namibia,” he clarified.
Alweendo acknowledged that the Chinese are often singled out as prominent players, likely due to their significant investments in two of the largest mining operations: Rössing Uranium and the Husab Mine.
