The Ministry of Mines and Energy has strongly refuted allegations of corruption and favouritism in the country’s energy sector related to the handling of oil and gas exploration licences.

This follows a letter, purportedly from a TotalEnergies shareholder and addressed to the company’s Chairman and CEO, Patrick Pouyanne, which implicated key figures within the Ministry, and players in the industry.

In that letter, widely circulated on social media, an alleged TotalEnergies shareholder, Louis Beauvais, accused the Ministry of impropriety within the Petroleum Department.

The missive, emphasising TotalEnergies’ commitment to integrity and transparency, urged the company’s board to cease further investments in block 2913B in the Orange Basin, offshore southern Namibia, citing corruption.
