The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics and Public Administration has called for the expedited construction of the Ongwediva Meat Processing Plant.
The committee cited the critical role of the processing plant in addressing challenges faced by the livestock market in Namibia’s Northern Communal Areas (NCAs).
The recommendation forms part of the committee’s 11th report, which highlights systemic issues affecting communal farmers and proposes measures to revamp the sector.
The committee’s report follows a petition by the Lisha Empowerment and Development Organisation in November 2022, titled “Namibia’s National Assembly Address the Urgent Need for Reviving the Market for Livestock in Namibia’s Northern Communal Areas (NCA).”
