A 22-year-old woman from Omawuni village in Okongo was arrested and detained at Omawuni police station on Tuesday morning for questioning after a baby was found dumped.
It’s alleged that a drunk man who was walking near a toilet heard a baby crying inside the toilet and went to inspect, and called the residents who alerted the police.
Allegations are that this is her second attempt to dump the baby.
According to Ohangwena police commander Commissioner Sibolile Elizabeth, who confirmed the report to Eagle FM, the baby was saved and taken to Omawuni clinic and is said to be in good condition.
“The mother of the baby has other children, but she told the police that she distastes her last born so much and she doesn’t want to look at her,’’ Elizabeth said.
Commissioner Elizabeth further said the baby will be taken to the Child Welfare Unit to be taken care of.
Investigations in the matter continue.
