As hunger intensifies in Namibia, calls for urgent intervention are growing louder. Human rights activist Linda Baumann emphasised that while numerous initiatives are underway to address hunger, they are insufficient to feed the nation.
Baumann advocates for empowering small farmers to feed their own communities and believes Namibia must prioritise the well-being of all its citizens, specifically identifying and supporting communities in dire need.
“There needs to be social nets in this country. As much as Namibia is doing well by having social grants, that is not enough to sustain families,” she stated.
This comes as a recent Afrobarometer survey showed that Namibia is grappling with significant food insecurity and cooking fuel shortages.
