At least seven European companies are seeking to invest in Namibia’s burgeoning green hydrogen sector, with a projected investment pipeline exceeding €20 billion (N$430 billion).
This was revealed by Ana Beatriz Martins, European Union Ambassador to Namibia, during the official opening of the HyIron Oshivela Plant over the weekend.
The HyIron Oshivela Plant, located near Arandis in the Erongo Region, is Africa’s first carbon-neutral production site.
Backed by a N$600 million investment, the project attracted global collaboration from the European Union, the United States, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Constructed in under 12 months, it has been reported that the plant created around 400 jobs during its first phase, with Namibian youth accounting for 90% of the workforce.
As one of the continent’s pioneering green iron facilities, Oshivela is committed to zero-emissions production.
