Electric vehicle (EV) industry experts are cautioning that excessive regulatory oversight and a lack of private sector engagement could hinder Namibia’s transition to electric mobility.
Namibia’s plan to implement an EV charging infrastructure regulatory framework is set to commence in April 2025.
The framework will outline installation conditions, regulatory requirements, and pricing mechanisms for EV charging stations.
Currently, EV charging stations are available at M&Z, UN House, BMW, and Grove Mall. According to EV pioneer and Electric Vehicles Namibia investor, Conrad Roedern, Namibia has around 130 electric sedans on the road, with fewer than 20 offering a long-range capacity of 300 to 500 kilometers.
