In June 2024, Ghana rejoined the list of African countries purchasing Namibian beef after a prolonged break, with some northern farmers calling the sudden stop“economic sabotage.”
According to the Livestock and Livestock Board of Namibia’s July 2024 statistics, Ghana imported 22,581 kilograms of Namibian beef after a long pause.
Before this, Ghana last procured Namibian beef in September 2023, buying 46,590 kilograms.
Namibian beef sales for the first seven months of 2024 amounted to 14.4 million kilograms, with 3.3 million kilograms sold to three African countries.
South Africa accounted for 95% of this African beef trade, purchasing 3.2 million kilograms, while Ghana and Angola shared the remainder.
Notably, Angola bought beef only three times this year, while Ghana resumed purchasing in July.
