Deputy Minister of Information Modestus Amutse has revealed plans to introduce free Wi-Fi in schools to promote equitable access to AI tools and digital resources.

“This year, we are setting up 14 network towers to enhance connectivity, with a focus on rural and underserved areas,” Amutse revealed.

The initiative, supported by the Broadband Policy and the ICT for Development Programme, aims to expand digital infrastructure and ensure that all students, regardless of socio-economic background, can benefit from advancements in AI and digital education.

Amutse explained that the project aligns with the government’s broader strategy to establish guidelines and frameworks for the ethical use of AI in education.

In 2022, Amutse tabled a motion in parliament advocating for free Wi-Fi in public facilities, especially schools.
