The lack of seed production in some parts of Namibia has significantly affected subsistence farmers, prompting calls for government intervention.

As such, Johannes Hausiku, Chairperson of the Kavango West Farmers Union, has urged the government to prioritise the cultivation of traditional crops, such as pearl millet (mahangu) and Bambara groundnuts, within green schemes.

He argues that such efforts would not only preserve these crops but also ensure a steady supply of seeds for farming communities.
