A company called HDF Energy Namibia’s which is venturing into the production of green hydrogen and related technologies says it is implementing a project with the potential of becoming the country’s quick-response power reserve.

It says its project will potentially replace current carbon-intensive coal and diesel-driven backups.

During a recent visit by an EU delegation to various green hydrogen project sites in the Erongo Region, HDF’s Director for Southern and East Africa, Nicolas Lecomte, explained that their technology is highly responsive, second only to hydropower in terms of instant power adjustments.

The project combines an 85 MW solar plant with electrolysers, battery storage, and fuel cells, producing up to 142 GWh of electricity annually.
