A health practitioner and a teacher are the latest victims of Covid-19 in Namibia, according to the health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula.

The two cases bring the total number of infected people in Namibia to 16. Dr Shangula announced this on Sunday when he presented the daily update on Covid-19 in Namibia.

According to Dr Shangula, the doctor is 46 years old and could have contracted the virus from South Africa where he visited.

The other case is of a 31-year-old teacher man who was in contact with a friend from South Africa. The friend, Dr Shangula said, visited Namibia until 26 March 2020. The man went for testing at the Robert Mugabe Clinic on 30 March after complaining of a cough, sore throat and body pains as well as shortness of breath. His results came out on Saturday 4 April 2020.

The health practitioner also went for testing at the Robert Mugabe Clinic on 30 March after experiencing body chills, a fever, body pain and a sore throat. His results came out on Saturday 4 April 2020 as well.

Dr Shangula further said that so far 362 people have been tested and that 206 tests were done by the Namibia Institute of Pathology while 156 went through PathCare.
