Farmers and residents of Kavango West are urging the communal land board to take swift action against the rising trend of illegal fencing on communal land, which is severely limiting livestock grazing areas.

This growing issue is impacting communities in Gava, Zigizi, Nkasima, and Nepara, with some roads even being blocked by illegal fences.

Johannes Hausiku, Chairperson of the Kavango West Farmers Union, expressed concern over communal lands being sold to multiple buyers, often under questionable claims of authorisation from traditional authorities.

However, many chiefs have contested these claims, highlighting the confusion and conflict surrounding land ownership in the region.
